AAUW Women's Virtual Community Project

The AAUW Women's Virtual Community Project is designed to provide an online 3-D meeting and discussion space for women and girls in the virtual world Second Life. Monthly events and workshops are open to the public and are announced in this newsletter and on our Google calendar.
Membership in Second Life is free. If you are unfamiliar with virtual worlds, you are welcome to join one of our hour-long orientation workshops which precede the events.
The Community Project is a collaborative effort. If you have a scholarly presentation, a display of digital art, or a digital class project on a relevant topic that you would like to present to others through a virtual world platform, please contact Dr. Sharon Collingwood at the address below.

January events:
THE AFGHANISTAN MUSEUM IN SECOND LIFE.
The Afghanistan Museum was created in support of the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (http://www.rawa.org/index.php). Founded in 1977, RAWA works for women’s rights and secular democracy, and is the oldest political/social organization of Afghan women.
The museum is a fine example of what individual activist/artists can accomplish; it evokes the cultural history and the lived experience of the women of Afghanistan, using an immersive sense of place to make a powerful political point.
